Day 5.
730 AM we’re back on the road again. The temples we’re
headed out to were farther than those we’ve visited yesterday, taking about 45 minutes
to travel. Also, our flight is at 4:30 PM, so we needed to be back at the hotel
early, with enough time to have lunch, do final preps, and be at the airport by
3:00 – 3:30 PM (we’ve web checked in already).
Our first stop, Pre Rup. It’s another hike up, much higher though so we
were up for another leg workout (aside from the walkathons).
At the topmost, you will find a statue. There was a
guard who we had a little chat with, until he went on giving us some brief
information of the temple. He did not ask for it, but I wanted to give him few
dollars. Unfortunately, I did not have any loose change. Good thing he asked if
we have PHPs, so we were able to give him some. Probably he’s keeping it for
souvenirs.
Here’s a view from the top. Also, from the top of this
temple you’ll get to see the peak of the Angkor Wat towers.
Next stop, Banteay Srei. I must say this is my favorite,
in all the temples we’ve visited. Its distinctive feature which I very much
appreciated, is the intricate carvings in the temple’s walls.
After we were done at Banteay Srei, we still have some
time to pass by one more temple.
Oh wait, before that, here’s a shot of us with our
tuktuk driver and tour guide. :) We’re glad to have very very nice people with us.
Now on to our last temple, Banteay Kdei.
Disappointingly, it rained while we were here.
We settled inside the temple, while waiting for the
rain to stop. We could not risk getting rained on -- our stuff are
already packed, and we have the camera with us, without anything to protect it from
getting wet.
Here’s some shots before the rain started pouring...
…and while inside the temple waiting for the rain to
calm down.
Luckily, there was a kid selling raincoats. We had to buy as we couldn’t wait long.
En route back to the hotel, the rain stopped. But then,
when we have just boarded the tuktuk to head to the airport, the rain fell hard
again, and it even went harder while we’re on our way. Our very kind tuktuk
driver were too concerned of us that we may be getting wet, but he was the one
getting all rained up as he did not wear his raincoat on. We also got concerned
of him, asking him where his raincoat was and that he wear it, but then he kept
saying he’s fine. You can see from the below shot how hard the rain was.
The rain eventually calmed down while we were at the
airport. Was hoping for it, so our flight does not get delayed. The plane will
be passing by Phnom Penh, and we will be having a 45-minute layover before we finally
leave for Singapore.
